Harrisburg, PA 17101
On January 15, 1938, PRR 4859 created history by pulling the first electric train all the way from Philadelphia to Harrisburg. Developed in the third decade of the 20th Century by General Electric, PRR 4859 was a GG1 class electric locomotive. It was used for passenger and freight service until 1979. It was added to the National register of Historical Places in 1982. PRR 4859 is kept on display at the Harrisburg Transportation Center.
