    Garrison Keillor is an American author, radio personality and humorist who is probably best known as host of the radio variety show A Prairie Home Companion. Born and raised in Minnesota, Keillor went to the University of Minnesota, where he began his broadcasting career at the university's student-run station, Radio K. In a ploy to create a program that would showcase an eclectic mix of rural music and humor, Keillor created the show A Prairie Home Companion in 1974 and though at first it struggled to find a listening base, the show has now grown into a mainstay of the American radio zeitgeist. With a strong knack for sharp wit, Keillor has evolved over the years to be an easily identifiable individual who's well-intentioned and affable personality have managed to resonate deeply with listeners of his show.

    Beginning its career as a backing band for the burlesque performances of Dita von Teese, DeVotchKa formed in 1997 and eventually started self-releasing albums of its world music. Drawing on traditional Greek, Romani and Slavic music, but infusing it with American punk, the Denver quartet began attracting a diverse audience when it was featured in various movie trailers and commercials and eventually was chosen to score the soundtrack for the Academy Award winning film Little Miss Sunshine. Since then the four multi-instrumentalists have toured worldwide and garnered an impressive amount of acclaim.

    The first major American exhibition to consider the French floral still life across the 19th century will premiere at the DMA in October 2014.  Bouquets: French Still-Life Painting from Chardin to Matisse, co-organized by the DMA and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, will showcase approximately 60 floral still lifes from painters such as Eugène Delacroix, Gustave Courbet, Henri Fantin-Latour, Édouard Manet, and Paul Cézanne to, highlight the well-established painting genre in France during the 1800s.  This exhibition will  include  six works from the DMA’s collection, and be accompanied by  a fully illustrated color catalogue.
