    »Toni Price

    September 23, 2014 7:00 PM

Toni Price was born in Philadelphia to adoptive parents. She soon sparked an ardent interest in music after falling in love with songs by the female blues legend Bonnie Raitt. Price moved to New Jersey and began playing a number of shows around the state, but after becoming disenfranchised with the lack of country musicians on the East Coast, she decided to pack up and move to Nashville. Thinking that she'd find an idealistic wonderland where she'd be encouraged to create music, Price kept running into brick walls because of the entrenched country music business. Nevertheless, Price played a lot of shows and grew as a musician. After accepting an invitation to perform at the South by Southwest Music Festival, Price traveled to Austin and immediately fell in love with the city. She released her debut album, Swim Away, in 1993 and since then, she has grown into a formidable and well-known voice in the Austin country music scene.

    »James Mcmurtry

    September 23, 2014 8:50 PM

James McMurtry is an Austin, Texas-based musician who is known for his purist approach to some decidedly American genres such as alt-country and Americana. Whether performing alone with his acoustic guitar or backed by his band, The Heartless Bastards, McMurtry writes in the classic singer/songwriter mold, favoring vivid imagery and storytelling over personal confessionals or cryptic, metaphorical lyrics. Though there's nothing particularly special about his voice and guitar playing, it's the simplistic but intense conviction of the overall package that has won McMurtry comparisons to legends such as John Prine and Jackson Browne. He's also been known to occasionally use his songwriting as a means of political discourse, penning songs in protest against Wal-Mart and the Iraq war.

    »The Zombies

    September 23, 2014 7:30 PM

After achieving global mainstream success with the single "Time of the Season" in the '60s, English pop band The Zombies continued to immerse itself in the pop rock scene. As the band matured and grew as musicians, it started to become more of a baroque pop group that included various unique instruments into its repertoire. Age hasn't affected the group, though, and despite being in their 60's the musicians still soldier on.

Garrison Keillor is an American author, radio personality and humorist who is probably best known as host of the radio variety show A Prairie Home Companion. Born and raised in Minnesota, Keillor went to the University of Minnesota, where he began his broadcasting career at the university's student-run station, Radio K.
