The Tony Butler Golf Course has two courses, an 18-hole and a 9-hole course, so those with all day or only a couple games can both get a course in. The course has both a clubhouse and a restaurant and anyone can play. Reservations are required, so make sure to book it if you want to play.
Hop aboard the Dolphin Docks charter service to experience all the ocean fun the Gulf of Mexico has to offer. Go deep sea fishing to catch some sand trout or whiting, although other fish can be caught at various times throughout the year. For those who prefer to be with living creatures, take the boat out to watch dolphins, many of whom often come right up to the boat to satisfy their curiosity.
The Harlingen Sports Complex is located to the north-west of the city's center. With splendid sports facilities that cover the acres of land, the complex is an ideal place to head for a game of baseball, soccer or basketball. The complex comprises softball fields, baseball fields, a couple of soccer fields and basketball courts, so there is no dearth of options as far as your choice of game is concerned. Located just outside Harlingen in Palm Valley, the Harlingen Country Club is one of the best places for golf in the area. The 18-hole course is a lush course perfect for year round golf. A driving range and putting greens round out the golf offerings, while a fitness center, pool, and tennis court are available elsewhere in the club. Membership is required to access the facilities.
With over 65,000 acres of land (263 square kilometers), the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge provides a safe haven for much of the flora and fauna of the southern Texas area. The park is open to visitors from dawn until dusk, and in fact it is at the very beginning and end of the day which is the best time for seeing large animals. A number of birds also make their home in the park. In terms of human activity, hiking, biking, and driving through the park are all permitted, as is fishing and hunting white-tailed deer when the appropriate rules are followed. Experience nature as it was meant to be seen at the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge.

The sea turtle is an endangered species and Sea Turtle Inc. is doing its best to change that. Learn about all the different species of turtles, and about what each individual can do to help the sea turtles. Whether there for an information session, or to meet some turtles, you are sure to learn a lot about this serene and misunderstood animal. The nonprofit was started in 1977 by a woman known by many as the "turtle lady of South Padre Island" and the organization continues to do good works to this day by rehabilitating and returning turtles to the wild.
