The Palácio da Alvorada is the official residence of the President of Brazil. The building was designed by Oscar Niemeyer, who designed it in the modernist style between 1957 and 1958. The building covers an area of 75,000 square meters (807,293 square feet), distributed over the basement, first and second floors. In adjacent buildings within palace grounds are a chapel and a heliport. The palace complex is guarded by the Presidential Guard Battalion. The palace is open for visitation and it is not necessary to book your visit. Call for more information about visiting hours.
