    The Seventeen-Arch Bridge

    Kunminghu Road
    Beijing, 100091
Located inside the complex of a classic tourist destination and UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the Summer Palace, the Seventeen-Arch Bridge connects the shore of Kunming Lake in the east and Nanhudao in the west. It is the largest bridge in the garden measuring 150 meters in length and 8 meters in width and was constructed between the years 1711 and 1799. The bridge is marked by columns decorated with more than 500 carved white marble lions and comprises nine arches of different sizes from center to each end of the bridge. A legend that surrounds the construction of the bridge is that the final stone of the bridge belonged to an old man who lived for a year around the construction of the bridge and was believed to be the reincarnation of Luban.
