    »Lynyrd Skynyrd

    October 25, 2014 8:00 PM

Revered for having popularized the Southern hard rock genre, Lynyrd Skynyrd has is a classic rock band from Jacksonville, Florida that is best known for catalog of music from the 1970s. Formed in 1964, the band was formed by three teenagers by the names of Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins and Gary Rossington who chose the name Leonard Skinner, a mock tribute to their P.E. teacher, before stylizing their band's name as it is known today. Lynyrd Skynyrd released its first album, in 1973 to immediate success, garnering attention from fans across the country with its country-inspired hard rock sound. The band's debut record was the first in a series of acclaimed albums, followed closely by 1974's Second Helping, which featured one of the most renowned American rock songs, "Sweet Home Alabama." Lynyrd Skynryd created several tunes that are now deeply ingrained in American pop culture as anthems of classic rock, despite the infamous 1977 plane crash that would cut the band's peak years short. After Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines and lead vocalist Ronnie Van Zant were killed in the crash only three days after the release of the band's fifth studio album, Street Survivors, Lynyrd Skynyrd broke up. The band ultimately reformed in 1987 with lead guitarist Gary Rossington as the only original member along with several musicians who played with Lynyrd Skynyrd before the crash, and Van Zant's younger brother Johnny as lead vocalist and songwriter.

    »Todd Rundgren

    October 26, 2014 8:00 PM

Active since the 1960s as a singer/songwriter, session musician and producer, Todd Rundgren got his start with the short-lived psychedelic garage rock band Nazz. After Nazz dissolved, Rundgren began dabbling around in various projects, including trying his hand at production work that would eventually lead him to engineer and produce albums by the likes of The Band, Hall & Oates, Bad Religion, XTC and Cheap Trick. As a solo artist, Rundgren released his pop/rock debut album, 1972's Something/Anything?, but quickly began experimenting in progressive rock, releasing three subsequent albums with complex arrangements, subtle synthesizers and other studio techniques. His return to the pop/rock genre came with 1976's Faithful, which featured his hit ballad and one of his most recognizable tracks "Can We Still Be Friends." Although his catalog of albums has solidified Rundren as a pop legend, his work as a supplemental musician and an intuitive producer has kept him relevant in an unforgiving music industry for over four decades running.

    »Drive By Truckers

    October 29, 2014 7:00 PM

Like most alt-country acts on the scene today, the Georgia based group Drive-By Truckers believes in the undaunted power of analog recording equipment. The group employs no real synthesized instruments--in fact, the group has three guitarists--and when the band goes into the studio, it prefers to lay down its songs on two inch tape as opposed to digital recording methods, the industry standards. The nostalgic approach to song writing/recording that Drive-By Truckers employs is working to the group's advantage, however. The band has been a favorite of critics ever since it released its debut LP in 1998 and with a rousing stage show that highlights each member's instrumental prowess, Drive-By Truckers has proven to be one of the more rewarding alt-country bands to track.

Beach House is a Baltimore, Maryland-based dream pop duo that was formed in 2004. The group released its self titled debut album in 2006, and the LP managed to highlight vocalist Victoria Legrand's characteristically deep singing style and guitarist Alex Scally's uniquely original approach to playing. Though the group managed to become somewhat of an indie underground sensation, the duo didn't properly break through until it released its critically lauded 2010 album, Teen Dream.Having since gone on to become a staple of the modern indie rock community, Beach House is in true form during live performances where Legrand and Scally are able to breathe life into their studio refined songs.
