»Strand of Oaks with Ryley Walker

    July 29, 2014 8:00 PM

Strand of Oaks is the stage name for Timothy Showalter, a folk singer-songwriter from Philadelphia who, despite having a tragic past that would normally be a boon for the average folk singer, would rather not sing about himself. Instead, the attraction of Strand of Oaks' music is in its observational prowess - often bringing to light fascinating ideas about people, places and things with his music as a result. The one thing that critics and fans can't get enough of is the emotion and clarity of vision that Strand of Oaks imbues into his special brand of folk music, one that could have audiences with tears in their eyes and a smile on their face.

    »George Clinton

    July 29, 2014 3:00 PM

As the leader of two of the classic funk bands, Parliament and Funkadelic, George Clinton has well-established himself as one of the genre's most eclectic and influential forefathers since the 1970s. His incorporation of psychedelic rock, over-the-top wardrobes and trippy stage setups took funk in a totally different direction that followers would attempt to mimic in future decades. With songs such as "Bring the Funk," "Atomic Dog" and "Can You Get to That," Clinton has scored over 40 hits on the R&B charts and maintained a successful solo career in the aftermath of Parliament and Funkadelic. His music and style have been hugely influential in the hip-hop world, especially amongst 1990s G-Funk artists such as Snoop Dogg and eccentric rappers like Andre 3000 of Outkast.
