Addison has worked hard on its beautification plans lately and the evidence is clear to see. Addison Circle Park is in between the Addison airport and the loud Belt Line Rd but it’s hard to notice in this subtle, yet beautiful area. This charming park has everything needed for a fun afternoon. Bring a Frisbee, ice chest, or a picnic. Let the kids or pets run through the fountains in the summertime. Athletes will the scenery while running or walking. Across the street are charming shops and dainty restaurants. If planning a family reunion or wedding reception the facilities can also be rented.
This treasure is tucked away behind malls and chic restaurants but it's still worth a visit. More importantly, it's the home of the Addison traveler and explorer. Though tours are not offered of this old beauty the visitors bureau is here and can point you in the direction of many different festivals and shows in the area. Especially nice during the Christmas season, it's decorated with beautiful lights and garlands.
Christian Chapel Temple of Faith is a beautiful church located in Dallas. Its goal is to incorporate its members into worship, and provide a house of prayer where they can restore and renew their faith in God. At the same time, it tries to combines the spiritual teaching with community service. The church has a Conference Center that the public can rent for public meetings, corporate events, conferences, fund-raiser events and concerts.
With a variety of apartment complexes and shopping centers around the park it's very surprising to find such a serene area as Cottonwood. The small lake that runs through it provides many different activities. The playgrounds and cook-out areas offer a great outing for families and friends. Because of how nice Cottonwood is, it's host to many different festivals throughout the year. Just beware of the Texas heat in the summer and be prepared!
For a thrilling day, visit the Zero Gravity Thrill Park. You'll find extreme rides that are sure to please even the most adventuresome. Go on the "Skyscraper" and experience incredible speed. Then, test your courage by riding "Nothin’ but Net", a 16 story free fall. You'll be sure to have a thrilling time!
This is Texas's largest mosque and many people come here to offer prayers and for other religious services. It is centrally located and offers parking.
Your family will enjoy the great outdoors at Arbor Hills Nature Preserve. It provides a tranquil place to escape the hectic city life for an afternoon. You will find untainted woods, meadows, a collection of native Texas trees, and a habitat for birds, fish, and wildlife. This preserve is connected through a series of bridges and ramps leading to a covered pavilion. You will find climbing structures and slides, plus a torpedo-shaped track ride, and a wonderful fake rock to climb.
Texas' own major movie production facility is the largest in the country outside of Florida and California. The studio's production company, Thornhill Productions Inc., has helped create such prestigious films as Silkwood, JFK and Trip to Bountiful. The public tour features such film artifacts as costumes from The Sound of Music and the bench from Forrest Gump. The tour lasts about an hour and a half, and includes The Blue Screen F/X Show, where the magical effects of the movies are explained and demonstrated. The National Museum of Communications, located in the same complex, holds the world's first color television and a Guttenberg printing press.
This beautiful freshwater lake offers a nice oasis in the city. Bachman Lake is a man-made lake was originally to be Dallas' water source, but that idea was later rejected because the lake was too small. Today this lake is perfect for fishing and sailing. If you want to fully enjoy the scenery then take the 3.3 mile (5.3 kilometer) trail that surrounds the lake.
Two outstanding games are available at this fun and exciting venue including LaserWhirld that features over 6,000 square feet on two levels of hunting or ambushing your opponents in laser tag and WhirlyBall where you and your teammates try to score by scooping the ball into your goal while driving your WhirlyBug. Billiard tables, video games, and concession stands are also on site.
This historically correct museum is dedicated to safeguarding the history of farm life on the Texas prairie from 1890 to 1920. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this four-acre site is accredited by the American Association of Museums. You will be able to view a restored 14-bedroom Victorian farmhouse with its original outbuildings, gardens and smokehouse along with a blacksmith's shop and farm animals. Period-dressed volunteers give guided tours. Among the many programs available are birthday party plans for children up to age 12.
Southern Methodist University has an enrollment of just over 9,000 students. People from more than 80 countries and all 50 states come to study on this campus. Though named after the Methodist denomination, students from every religious background are welcome. SMU has been ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top 100 universities in the country. In addition to its fine undergraduate degree programs, SMU offers graduate degrees through its Underwood School of Law, Perkins School of Theology, and Cox School of Business.
