The Mongolian-style barbecue here is probably quite a bit fancier than what the original Genghis Khan ate during his travels. However, it is still a simple, tasty way to prepare spicy and delicious meats. Choose a combination of lamb, beef, pork or chicken along with assorted julienned vegetables and watch as the chefs stir-fry them quickly on the fiery grill. All-you-can-eat meals include soup, spring roll, tea, dessert and a glass of house wine for one fixed price. The strip-mall location won't delight you with grand decorations, but the food should please both your palate and your pocket.

The varied menu includes a delightful selection of soups, salads, seafood, pasta, beef and chicken. Choose a traditional entrée such as the rosemary chicken, or try something not as traditional, like the ostrich filet. The five-course Sunday brunch is a must-do.
Just outside The Loop, in your average middle-class American neighborhood, sits this remarkable little Puerto Rican restaurant called La Marginal. Ignore the fact that it sits in an unassuming little strip center and wander in. You'll be glad you did. Black beans abound on this menu. Beyond that, two of the best options are the award-winning Sandwich Cubano, featuring tender beef and pork and melted Swiss cheese, and the Platano Loco, with roast pork, grilled ham, Swiss cheese and green plantains.

Run by John the Greek himself (along with his wife), this restaurant serves up home-style Greek favorites with an authentic flavor. The decor is nothing special, but the food makes this place worth a visit. Along with very good gyros, it offers moussaka, pastitsio, spanikopita, baklava and other traditional favorites. The stuffed grape leaves are just like the ones made in the mother country. The restaurateurs bottle their own Greek salad dressing as well.
